North & Safaga safari

This cruise itinerary, departing from Hurghada, offers an exceptional blend of both vibrant reef and fascinating wreck diving, journeying from the northern Red Sea towards the Safaga region.

The adventure begins in the north at Shaab El Erg, a site renowned for its stunning hard coral gardens and frequent dolphin encounters. The cruise then proceeds to Abu Nuhas, the infamous “Ships Graveyard.” Here, divers can explore up to four well-known wrecks, including the Giannis D and Carnatic. These wrecks rest at accessible depths on a beautiful reef teeming with marine life and a rich tapestry of both hard and soft corals, offering spectacular dive experiences and abundant fish populations.

A short voyage across the Straits of Gubal leads to what is arguably the Red Sea’s most celebrated wreck: the SS Thistlegorm. This awe-inspiring British vessel from World War II, laden with military cargo such as Bedford trucks and BSA motorbikes intended for British forces in North Africa, was sunk by the German Luftwaffe and now rests in approximately 30 meters of water. Depending on diver skill levels and prevailing weather and current conditions, a night dive at this iconic wreck is often offered. The itinerary also includes a visit to the Dunraven wreck at Shaab Mahmoud. Nearby, Ras Mohamed National Park beckons with a morning dive at ‘Shark Reef’. This site features a dramatic sheer wall that plunges into the deep blue waters.
Overnight travel brings you to the Safaga area, a region acclaimed for its excellent diving opportunities. The offshore reefs of Panorama Reef, Middle Reef, and Abu Kafan stand out as prime dive locations. Diving in this area presents a diverse range of experiences, from shallow reef explorations to thrilling drop-offs, and also includes the well-known Salem Express wreck. Panorama Reef and Abu Kafan are particularly noted for their superb wall diving. For divers seeking hidden gems, sites like Hal Hal offer unique dives when weather conditions are favorable.
Across these Safaga dive sites, divers can anticipate encountering soft and black corals, expansive fan corals, and huge gorgonians. Frequent sightings of Jacks, Barracudas, and Eagle Rays contribute to the promise of a truly memorable underwater adventure.
